PLAYGROUND OPENING NEWS

NEWTON PLAY AREA OPENING  – RE-ARRANGED

SUNDAY 8th JULY 2018 at NOON

Newton Parish Council is delighted to announce that Newton Play Area will now open on SUNDAY 8TH JULY AT NOON

Snagging issues have been addressed and the newly replaced turf and seeded areas need a little extra time to settle. For this reason, the gates will remain secured until the opening date so please refrain from accessing the area until this time.

In this hot, dry weather and with a regular supply of water onsite from James Fisher, we are on a mission to keep the new turf watered so please bear with us whilst nature does its thing with a little help from us! The ground conditions will be all the better for it!

The 8th of July has also been chosen to coincide with Newton’s fifth annual and very popular sports day, so another great community event for Newton to look forward to this summer!

There will be some refreshments and entertainment provided at this fun event so watch this space for further updates

PLAY AREA OPENING 16TH JUNE – POSTPONED

The decision has been taken not to open the new play this weekend. This is due primarily to safety concerns over the ground conditions which remain very uneven where the grass matting and new turf has not bedded in well to date. This is a regrettable decision which has not been taken lightly by those involved. Despite seeking regular assurances from the third party supplier on this matter both prior to and during installation, it was concluded that the play area in its current state remains unsatisfactory due to trip hazards.

Rest assured the Parish Council is working with the third party to get the play area safe, operational and open for use at the earliest opportunity, having made the sound decision to get things right now, rather than run the risk of a later closure during the summer holidays.

Watch this space for further updates and a new play area opening date.

Don’t forget StreetFest at Newton House Farm goes ahead as planned on Saturday! Tickets are still available for both events.

This will be a family friendly event THAT PROVIDES our children WITH THE first OPPORTUNITY to ENJOY USE OF the equipment

REFRESHMENTS will be provided

New Play Area Installation – progress report

At the May monthly Council meeting it was decided to make the opening a 2 hour event from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm, on Saturday 16 May with the ribbon cutting still at the noon when County Councillor leader Kay Cutts will do the honours.

We look forward to welcoming many residents and children to the first social event of the day!

Play Area – progress report

Play Area update Day 3

Things are progressing well on site now the weather has been kinder to us. The ground has been marked out and the footings are starting to be dug.

You may have have noticed the tyre marks around the green. Please be assured a site meeting has been held with the project manager and all damage has been noted. The area on Anson Road will be restored on Tuesday and the area on Battle Close will be completed once the work is finalised.

Play area progress – Torrential rain hampers first day!

Typically the weather was not on side this morning when play area works began! Torrential rain whilst deliveries were made to site has caused some damage to the ground as you might expect. We sincerely apologise for this but rest assured, the Play Area Committee is working closely with the supplier and their installation team onsite to minimise any disruption during these works and they are of course under contract to make good any damage that may inadvertently be caused. Watch this space for further updates on progress and if we can believe the forecast, we are about to move into a dry spell, so perfect for building our new play area!
